Spondylolisthesis

Spondylosis is a condition where one of the vertebrae in the spine slips forward over the vertebra below it. This misalignment can cause pain, nerve compression, and reduced mobility. It commonly affects the lower back (lumbar spine) but can also occur in the neck (cervical spine). Causes include aging, arthritis, injury, repetitive stress, or congenital spine defects.

    Symptoms

    1. Lower back pain that worsens with movement or prolonged standing.
    2. Leg pain or numbness due to nerve compression (sciatica).
    3. Muscle weakness in the lower back, buttocks, or legs.
    4. Tingling or burning sensations in the legs.
    5. Difficulty walking or standing for long periods due to instability.
    6. Tight hamstrings and lower back stiffness.
    7. Loss of bladder or bowel control in severe cases (medical emergency).

    Treatment

    1. Medications: Pain relievers (NSAIDs, muscle relaxants) to manage pain and inflammation.
    2. Physical Therapy: Strengthening core and back muscles to support the spine.
    3. Activity Modification: Avoiding high-impact sports and heavy lifting to prevent worsening the condition.
    4. Bracing: Wearing a back brace for posture support and to limit excessive movement.
    5. Steroid Injections: To reduce pain and inflammation in severe cases.
    6. Surgical Treatment (if needed): Procedures like spinal fusion or decompression surgery may be recommended if symptoms persist despite non-surgical treatments.

Early diagnosis and a combination of therapy, lifestyle changes, and medical treatment can help prevent further complications and improve mobility. If you experience worsening pain, tingling, or difficulty walking, consult a spine specialist for proper evaluation and treatment.
